Just for the heck of it, I took some of the sample tests available over the internet. If you are a regular in English, IELTS is not that tough. Probably a couple of weeks prep would be more than enough. Listening exam takes some practice and getting used to. I strongly recommend you get a book like Cambridge IELTS and take all the tests in there. This will give you confidence and reduce the number of surprises you get on entering the exam.

A lot of B-schools ask for IELTS score rather than TOEFL. So I did a bit of research. I was surprised to find that unline GMAT and TOEFL, taking an IELTS date is rather difficult (its not 5 days a week). There are only a few dates available in a month when you can schedule your test, seats are rather limited and fill up very fast. Infact a few centers already dont have any dates till April 08.

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System and the IELTS score is also considered by a lot of employers as a means of demonstrating competency in English. The test takers are tested on their English writing, speaking, listening and reading skills. In fact speaking skills are tested by a in-person interview.
