Got 710 in GMAT ,Verbal 38 / 83% Quant 49 / 88% 710 / Total 92%710 12th July08

Dear friends,

GMAT experience of test takers on this forum helped me a lot in finalising strategy. I had started with 600 score and got up to 740 in mock tests of mba.com. I believe any body can get score upto 720.My GMAT strategy:-
(i) Maintaining an error notebook , whatever error in any test I wrote in diary so that I could focus on fundamentals
(ii) Repeating both mba.com tests 10 times each after gap of 10-12 days till my GMAT test. Also solved 25 tests from different sources, princeton review 6 tests ( easier than GMAT, so scores are a bit high). Analysis of tests to identify weak areas. I think one should practice a lot with whatever tests one can find
(iii) Tried reducing ( despite my efforts could not eliminate , was getting 4-5 wrong answers in tests before GMAT which I should have solved and must have got wrong in GMAT also), silly mistakes. This is the sigle most imoprtant factor to improve scores as most of us know how the correct answer but still because of lack of focus keep making mistakes. I got only 5 out of 6 in AWA because typing speed was poor. One must type fast enough to write minimum 600 words for each section, I could not write more than 400 words.
(iv) Books- GMAT OG 11 , OG Verbal & quantitative. Manhattan sentence correction & some material from esnips.com Preparation time:- Three weeks serious preparation for 8-10 hours before test and three months for 4 hours. I know I could have scored 20 more easily but I think this score is good enough to get me anywhere.
I belong to Central Government Gr A civil service and have completed Master in Public Adminisrtation from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy , NUS Singapore.

I feel barring 2-3 tough Math questions Most are of Matriculation standard so build fundamentals and I am sure if you avoid making silly mistakes , u can even better me.
