Is 2x a multiple of y?

1. 2x+2 is a multiple of y.

2. y is a multiple of x.


2. is not sufficient. 1. is supposed to be suff. I wouldn't say so.

If 2*4 is a multiple of 2=y, 2x+2 is a multiple of y as well. But If 2*9 is a multiple of 6, 2*9+2 isn't.

I don't get it...

The answer is A

consider

so 12 is multiple of 4
check for 2x=10 ....whether it is multiple of 4??

take another example

9 4 20

20 is multiple of 4
but 18 is not a multiple of 4


so we get a definite NO from 1


2 states taht y is multiple of x
check considering same numbers u will find it doesnt give a definite answer

we need not consider values for x and y,
condition 1 is given to us
that means 2x+2 is a multiple of y
so assume any value of 2X+2 that is multiple of y

if we take
x y 2x+2
1 1 4

then 2x+2 is multiple of y and 2x is also multiple of y...

Assume y = 1 and x = 2

2x+2 = 4

y = 1

both 2x and 2x+2 is a multiple of y.

Assume
y=2 , x=4

again you will see that both 2x and 2x+2 is a multiple of y

hence A can say "yes" or "no" ... its insuffient.

If we consider A , 2x + 2 is a multiple of y ... lets take x= 2 ,y=2 .. then 2x+2 =6 .. then it is divisible by y... however if we get 2x+2 as not a multiple of y when x= 3 and y= 3..
