Over the past decade or so the average gmat scores for admissions in Top B-schools (worldwide) have soared close to 700. However the average range of 690-710 on GMAT for the top B-schools may be a bit misleading because all schools intake some number of students based on diversity, sex ratio and extraordinary accomplishments, irrespective of their gmat scores. This may drag the average gmat score of the admitted students on to the lower side. This indicates that the GMAT scores for regular candidates must be slightly on the higher side to secure an interview call. So if you are not in one of the above categories, you need to score even more to be considered for admissions. As per this analysis, a score of 720-730 on GMAT probably gives you a better chance at managing some attention from B-school's adcom.
