Following are some common questions we have received from users regarding GMAT exam. We have tried to provide the latest available information to these questions. However if you find we have missed anything, please do let us know. We will keep updating these further. Last Updated: October 8, 2007

Q. How to study for the GMAT? We have prepared this gmat study plan to get your started on your GMAT Voyage. Please note that this is just a road map and actual implementation would differ from person to person. If you have more questions, you are welcome to ask them in our gmat forums

Q. When can I take the test? GMAT(R) exam is administered during the whole year. You can schedule your exam by going to the following website and following instructions: http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT

Q. I am not satisfied by my test score, can I retake? Yes you can retake. Actually you can take GMAT as many times as you like, but there is a limit of 5 attempts per year. And yeah if you get a perfect score (800), you cannot retake the exam for next 5 years

Q. I am not yet prepared to take the test yet, Can I reschedule? Yes, you can reschedule the test. If you reschedule the test more than 7 days before your current test date, you will be charged $50 as the rescheduling fee, if you reschedule within 7 days of your current date, you will be charged full fee. We suggest that if you are within 7 days of your GMAT test, go ahead and take it because you would end up paying the full fees anyways for another attempt. http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT/RegisterfortheGMAT/GMATAppointments/RescheduleaGMATAppointment.htm

07 Jan 08 What should be my GMAT Score?

Over the past decade or so the average gmat scores for admissions in Top B-schools (worldwide) have soared close to 700. Our research in the post [Top B-schools - average gmat scores] shows that for class of 2007, the average gmat scores for top B-schools ranged from 680-710. The increase in average gmat admission scores is a result of the increasing number of MBA applications and also the increasing popularity of MBA. In our previous post we had informed our readers that a recent survey has revealed that increasing financial benifits, networking possibilities, globalalization, excellent salary packages, and MBA skill sets make MBA one of the hottest degrees worldwide both for the job seekers and [providers].

However the average range of 690-710 on GMAT for the top B-schools may be a bit misleading because all schools intake some number of students based on diversity, sex ratio and extraordinary accomplishments, irrespective of their gmat scores. This may drag the average gmat score of the admitted students on to the lower side. This indicates that the GMAT scores for regular candidates must be slightly on the higher side to secure an interview call. So if you are not in one of the above categories, you need to score even more to be considered for admissions. As per this analysis, a score of 720-730 on GMAT probably gives you a better chance at managing some attention from B-school's adcom.
