MBA - What should I major in? - HR, Finance, Entrepreneurship , Marketing ..

Many MBA aspirants are caught in dilemma of major-selection even before they start their MBA program. Its good to be proactive but its better if we have some insight about the majors being offered by the MBA programs. Most MBA Programs only offer MBA degree. They do not offer MBA in finance or MBA in marketing. As and when you move along with the program, you get opportunity to select electives. You choose electives based on your interest and this electives are reflected in your resume. So which program should you chose and when?

- What to select? As we stated earlier you need to understand the complete picture of the courses /majors that you are going to opt for and their nuances. For example, if you want Finance as your major then you should be well aware of the Pandora's box that you have opened. I mean to say u should be able to pen down where exactly your focus/skills/long term goals lie: Venture Capitalism (VC), Investment Banking (IB), Corporate finance etc. Once you are aware, you will not regret the choices u have made.

- When to select? It is always good to start ahead in terms of understanding what are the various choices one has in an MBA program. However probably the best time to select is before or during your 1st semester in the B-school. Your interactions with and networking with current B-school students will prepare you for the ultimate decision.
