    Q51. GMAT Verbal SC - The critic

    Q. The critic gave the movie a negative review more because he found the portrayal of the lead character inaccurate than being offended at the use of racial stereotypes.

    A. than being offended at the use of racial stereotypes
    B. being offended at the use of racial stereotypes
    C. than because he was offended by the use of racial stereotypes
    D. than being offended by the use of racial stereotypes
    E. than the use of racial stereotypes being offensive

    PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR REASONING AND NOT JUST THE ANSWER CHOICES.

    gave negative review "more because he found"
    the parallel structure for this is
    than because he was offended in C

    I'd go with C, because all parts of the sentence should parallel.

    OE: Parallelism is key here. "more because he found than being offended..." does not work in a "more x than y" structure, eliminating A and D. "more because he found than the use..." also is un-parallel. B fails to link the two phrases is any way, so no "more x than y" structure exists. The only answer choice that is parallel is C: More because he found than because he was offended...
