    D. the public school has science facilities that are both outdated technologically and under-equipped to handle the number

We are comparing schools . hence only C D E are left

C out has we are talking abt shortcomings of science facilities .. Hence it shd have been science facilities ... & ...

E has amount which modifies students .. number is countable which shd be the correct modifier.

    Hence i say its D

    Dear Hagrid,
you shouldn't have highlighted this part: 'of students at the school' - this part, according yo your answers remains unchanged.

I would go with "D" because following the format of the beginning of the sentence it can only b "D" or "E". Furthermore, I choose "D" because the number of students can be counted so number should be used.

    OA: D
OE: "Unlike the private high school" should be compared with the public school, not the public school's facilities, eliminating A and B. C alters the meaning of the sentence, stating that the school overall is under-equipped to handle the number of students, rather than just its science facilities. E simply uses the word "amount" instead of "number". D is the correct answer.
